Our Missions
Pili carries an ambitious vision to respond to the ecological crisis and has set itself the mission of decarbonizing the color industry by breaking free from fossil resources. We are convinced that the transition must be accessible and irresistible, and this is what we stand for thanks to strong values in which pilists find themselves.

Our vision

“Transforming the color industry is a complex mission, as it still relies on inexpensive and abundant fossil raw materials, processes that have been optimized for many decades, and a costly industrial park to convert. But we have all the resources to become a major and inspiring player in the industry by offering the world concrete alternatives.”
Guillaume Boissonnat-Wu
Chief scientific & industrial officer

"The success of this scientific and entrepreneurial adventure is the result of the commitment and multidisciplinarity of the Pili team. I'm very happy about the enthusiasm and hope that this project is arousing at all levels. It's also thanks to the many public and private supports that Pili is now making its mark on the industrial landscape."

Our Missions
What we work for...
Decarbonizing the color industry
Every year, the color industry emits 200 million tons of CO2. Pili is dedicated to revolutionizing this sector with its innovative manufacturing process. Our technology makes it possible to produce biobased dyes and pigments on an industrial scale, while drastically reducing CO2 emissions compared with colors derived from fossil raw materials. Pili is also committed to carrying out and communicating Life Cycle Analyses (LCAs) for each reference launched on the market.
Breaking free from fossil resources
Today’s colorant producers are dependent on the oil industry, since 99% of colors are produced from fossil resources. By using non-food biomass as a raw material in its manufacturing process, Pili helps to reduce reliance on the petrochemical industry and makes colorant production part of a more virtuous circular economy.
Pili develops its processes to promote a renewable carbon cycle: our products are made from atmospheric carbon captured by plants as they grow in a cyclic process. This approach contrasts with the use of fossil carbon, which is extracted from the subsoil where it has been stored for millions of years, only to be emitted into the atmosphere, increasing the concentration of greenhouse gases.
Making the transition irresistible and inevitable
Technology alone is not enough to meet the challenges of environmental transition. We also need to produce positive narratives to foster collective support and accelerate this transformation. That’s why Pili is working to produce new imaginaries, particularly concerning microbes, the cornerstone of ecosystems and essential partners in resolving this systemic crisis. Today, Pili is at the forefront of these microbial imaginaries, which draw on rigorous scientific knowledge to nourish visionary artistic creations.
We also strive to steer decision-makers towards an industrial transformation that is essential to the environmental transition. Pili is involved with groups and associations such as En Monde Climat, Fashion For Good and Mouvement Impact France, which are working towards a more sustainable industry.
Our Values
Cooperation
We foster a spirit of teamwork and collaboration. We value the complementarity of our teams, and we create links between our areas of expertise: biology and chemistry, life sciences and industry. We believe in the power of collective effort and in ambitious partnerships within our ecosystem to impact business models, regulations, and consumption patterns towards a decarbonized and desirable future.
Humility
As a scientific company, we know that our continuous improvement relies on our willingness to question ourselves and to be questioned. We are aware that we are only a part of the solution to environmental challenges, and we strive to contribute to the necessary transformation of the industry.
High-Standards
We know that decarbonizing the industry requires hard work and dedication, which is why we give our best. We put quality at the heart of our approach and practices. We rely on our expertise to achieve operational excellence and become the new ecological standard in the color industry.
Accountability
As an industrial company, we are aware of our employer, environmental and societal responsibilities. We offer a working environment where everyone can develop their skills and grow in safety. We measure our environmental impacts, share them transparently and work to reduce them. We are committed to aligning our company’s interests with those of a fairer, more supportive and more sustainable society.
