Dyeing for the Future: What if the future of color grew instead of being manufactured?
In October 2025, at Kingpins Show Amsterdam, the event driving innovation in the denim industry, Pili joined leading voices to explore this very question.
Our Chief Business Officer Pierre-Yves Bolle took part in the panel “Dyeing for the Future”, moderated by David Tring, alongside Dustin White (LAB Denim, Inc.), Li Li (Chloris Biodye)
and Olga Alexopoulou (Quantum Light).
They shared a common understanding:
- The denim industry faces real resource and supply risks: Dependence on petro-indigo is not sustainable in the long term! The last drops of petroleum will be used for essential products such as pharmaceuticals, not for making color!
- Regulations are tightening fast: New measures such as France’s Eco-Score will put a price on fossil CO₂ emissions and chemical toxicity. Innovation must move faster than policy.
- Conventional indigo carries a heavy environmental cost, particularly regarding water use and hazardous chemicals. The shift toward cleaner, more sustainable dyes and dyeing technologies is already creating a competitive advantage
Collaboration is key !
No single solution will reshape the industry! Real progress depends on shared innovation, versatility, and collective ambition just as showcased in this panel.
The future of indigo is biobased, diverse and collaborative!
